The VFC conducts group swimming lessons at the pool each summer.  All lessons will be conducted by Red Cross certified instructors.  Our instructors are generally part of our Swim Team Coaching Staff and our Lifeguard Staff.  Private Lessons can also be arranged independently with select pool staff.  Please see the postings in the lobby for private lesson information, instructors and pricing.

2010 Session Schedules:

Session One:  Monday through Thursday, June 21 - July 12, 2010

Session Two:  Monday through Thursday, July 5 - July 15, 2010

At each session, two levels will be offered: 

Level 1 - Water Exploration:    This level is for our beginning swimmers.  Open to children aged 3 – 4, this instruction provides orientation to the aquatic environment and development of positive adjustment to the water.  Front and back floats are introduced to the participants, as well submerging!
 
Level 2 - Primary Skills/Stroke Readiness:  This level is for those who are comfortable in the water and ready to move on to preliminary stroke development.  The session is open to children aged 5 and up.  Aquatic locomotion skills are expanded.  Front and Back floats, glides and glide with kick are introduced.  Also, freestyle and backstroke armstrokes are introduced and refined. This level is intended to give students the confidence to move about in the water and learn basic strokes.
 
Level 3 - Stroke Development/Refinement:  This level is for those comfortable with introductory strokes.  The goal is the development of competency in freestyle, backstroke and the introduction of breaststroke.  Instructors will work with students to refine these strokes and build swimming endurance.  Strokes will be refined for competitive swimming.  Butterfly will be introduced to those students who have mastered the above strokes.
 
The cost of lessons this year is $60 per session.  Sign-up sheets will be available at the lobby desk.
 
Please remember that parents are required to watch lessons from the eating area, not on the pool deck.  This helps children focus on the lesson and instructor.
